Without Margarete Steiff, the world might have turned out to be a very different place.

Born in a small town in southern Germany and plagued with a lifelong physical disability, Margarete faced surmountable obstacles right from her formative years, but went on to accomplish the impossible anyway. She managed to establish and solidify her brand in a single lifetime - one that continues to be recognized around the world today as the oldest premier teddy bear makers in the world. The company follows up with regular independent testing by external laboratories as well, including the renowned TŰV Rheinland LGA, the leading test institute for toys in Germany.

The Steiff Purity Law
Steiff's Purity Law is a fixed component of its corporate culture and is the basis of trust its customers have bestowed upon them for generations. The 'Button-in-Ear' - A Trademark of Quality
In 1904, Franz Steiff (the nephew of Margarete Steiff) was looking for a way to protect the brand from imitation. His great idea later became the epitome of quality and handiwork: a metal button in the ear as a protection label. Initially engraved with an elephant motif, the metal button soon evolved and became inseparable from the ear tag - and today, stands as a worldwide renowned trademark that is unique to Steiff; synonymous with quality, the richness of ideas and an entrepreneurial spirit.
